Election Day came a day early for the Holy Cross community. Students from faculty member, Meg Dwyer’s ’05 AP US History class hosted a mock election, which was open to the entire school. Students had to present their ID to their peers who worked the voting booths in the school library. Afterwards, they went to a private area to cast their vote.

Through this activity, students learned how to research the candidates, pre-register and anticipate what goes on at the voting booths. “This was a very successful program,” said Ms. Dwyer. “Over 275 people came out to vote. Students became more aware of their civic responsibility as American citizens.”

“This is the last (Presidential) election that we won’t be able to vote in,” said Mikayla Pieksza ’18. “Ms. Dwyer encouraged us to research each candidate and see where he/she stood on issues that were important to us.”

“This is going to be a make it or break it election,” said Danny Flaherty ’18. The next election is also going to be a big one for us. It’s going to be cool to see who we, as a school, choose for President.”
